Update: Oh, I missed that. “To show appreciation to the community that has patiently waited for the DLC, Techland will be offering Dying Light: The Beast at no additional cost to all owners of Dying Light 2 Stay Human Ultimate Edition, providing a complete standalone adventure instead of just DLC.” That's cool!
This seems odd. I'm only vaguely familiar with the Dying Light games, but I felt like the model here was to release a single game, then update and expand it for years. I don't know if the standalone adventure Dying Light: The Beast represents an attempt to rectify the lukewarm reception of Dying Light 2. But at the very least, it has something in common with all the other announcements at Gamescom tonight: it's a game that exists, and will likely be playable at some point.

This one also has a Steam page. “A thrilling standalone zombie adventure set in a carefully crafted rural region,” it says. There’s no release date yet, but it does feature four-player co-op. Here are some more details on the setting:
This once-popular tourist destination is home to a dwindling number of survivors and a growing zombie population. Made up of natural sites, small villages, and industrial complexes, the setting offers a variety of travel options, from using your parkour skills to get the better of your enemies to jumping into an abandoned SUV to escape the horrors of the night.
“I'm glad it didn't take 500 hours. As a freelancer, that would work out to about 30 cents an hour, but, more to the point, Dying Light 2 just doesn't have enough character to hold your attention beyond 30 hours,” Matthew (RPS en paix) wrote in his review. “When the real zombie apocalypse comes, we should all be lucky enough to face such a well-mannered world.” Hopefully The Beast will be a little wilder, then.
